742 & 750 S. NATIONAL   FT. SCOTT, KS

Purchase a piece of history, and generate revenue for years to come…

Lyons Twin Mansions is a full service Bed & Breakfast and Restaurant for sale in Fort Scott, Kansas, just 60 minutes South of Kansas City and 60 minutes North of Joplin.  It is comprised of two mansions, standing proudly on what was once a high hill with unobstructed views of the prairie. These Victorian stunners are a sight to see, and for the last thirty years, people have traveled from near and far to do just that - for a chance to stay at the award-winning Bed & Breakfast which has been operated out of these iconic homes, nestled right in the middle of small town America.

The rich history of these beautiful Twin Mansions dates back to 1876, when two bankers, who were brothers by marriage, made their way from the big city of New York to a little town on the frontier - Fort Scott, Kansas.  They settled, opened their bank in 1868, began building the mansions in 1872, and completed the massive undertaking four years later, in 1876.  Ever since, in a span of a century-and-a-half, each mansion has been called “home” by only five families.  The current owners of the North mansion, Pat and Larry Lyons, have loved and cared for it for 40 years.  The South mansion, owned by their youngest son Nate and his wife Bailey, was purchased in 2008, marking in history the first time these two iconic homes were again owned by the same family, since the brothers who had established them over 130 years prior.

Yesterday’s grandeur is evidenced by the regality of these architectural masterpieces.  Stunning details are found everywhere you look, in both the interior and exterior.  Each of the uniquely exquisite homes showcases dramatic original woodwork and built-ins, magnificent curved staircases, soaring ceilings, over-sized ornate windows, stately fireplaces, generously-sized rooms, welcoming porches, and intricacies down to even the smallest of details.  At every step, the homes have been devotedly restored and maintained, with careful attention to the mansion’s historic character. The properties feature opulent details of a time gone by, while simultaneously offering modern conveniences such as updated kitchens and baths, plumbing, electric, HVAC, roofs, and even a generator.

The floorplans of the 5,500+ SF mansions mirror each other – hence why we call them Twins.  Though they share many similarities, they are each uniquely different in what they currently offer.  At the helm of the Lyons family, these historic gems have evolved to offer all the amenities of a boutique hotel. The North mansion is home to the 5-guest room bed and breakfast, whereas the South mansion houses a full-service and newly renovated restaurant and lounge, which was simply deemed “Nate’s Place”.  Together, the Twin Mansions Bed & Breakfast and Nate’s Place Restaurant and Lounge have a long-standing reputation for elegant lodging and fine dining.
